Lauren Pruett, TSC

She’s Just Being Dramatic

Lauren learned about Cued Speech while working in an afterschool program. When she heard that a deaf kindergartener who used cueing would be joining the school, she enrolled in a training course and was immediately hooked. Working closely with that student sparked a lasting connection, and it quickly became clear that transliteration was not just a skillset but her calling.

More than thirty years later, Lauren has built a career as a cued language transliterator, traveling instructor, mentor, and trainer. She is nationally certified through TECUnit, trained as an instructor through the CLTPES program, and holds a license through the NC Interpreter and Transliterator Licensing Board. She completed the Cued Speech Interpreter Training Program at Gallaudet University and earned her undergraduate degree from Kenyon College.

Lauren's background in theatre gave her the expressive tools, quick thinking, and presence that continue to shape her work today. She’s known for her encouraging and respectful approach, and she finds joy in creating space for learners to think, process, and connect—especially when she sees that lightbulb moment spark in a new cuer.

In addition to her work as a trainer and online instructor for LM@, Lauren owns Language Matters Inc. She has served on state interpreter training committees, collaborated with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, and was the first assistant manager of a local Ronald McDonald House. Through all her roles, Lauren remains passionate about the proper practice of cued language transliteration and the power of communication access done well.
